The Effects of Environmental Risk Perception on College Students'Pro-Environmental Behavior in Air Pollution Contexts:Based on a Moderated Mediation Model
Atmospheric pollution has gradually become an important issue for sustainable development, and in addition to the efforts of the state, government and relevant departments, the public's choice of action is also crucial. To effectively transform the public's perception of atmospheric risk into pro-environmental behaviors, and to realize the"unity of knowledge and action"for environmental improvement,it is necessary to firstly clarify the occurrence mechanism of pro-environmental behaviors. In this paper,we take college students as an example, obtain psychological variables through questionnaires, combine them with air quality data, and use a moderated mediation model to verify the mechanisms of environmental risk perception, natural association, and PM2.5 exposure value on college students' pro-environmental behaviors. The results showed that:environmental risk perception positively predicted pro-environmental behaviors;natural associations played a fully mediating role in the influence pathway;the influence pathway had an urban-rural difference,i.e.,atmospheric risk perception from urban individuals was sensitive to direct pro-environmental behaviors, and was slow to change in natural associations;the influence pathway was moderated by the concentration of PM2.5 that the individuals were exposed to,i.e.,the PM2.5 exposure The higher the value, the stronger the mediating effect. The above results clarify the influence path of environmental risk perception on pro-environmental behaviors, and provide theoretical support and practical references for further enhancing college students' pro-environmental behaviors and promoting college students' environmental education.
