Research on the Formation Mechanism and Influencing Factors of Ruts on Asphalt Pavement
[Purposes]This paper aims to explore the early distribution characteristics of rutting diseases on asphalt pavement, clarify its formation mechanism, optimize pavement structure design, and improve pavement service life, and relevant experiments and numerical simulation studies were conducted on a municipal road in a certain city of Hunan province.[Methods]This study conducted on-site research and analyzed the statistical distribution patterns of rutting diseases on different sections of the city's roads, and constructed a numerical simulation model of asphalt pavement based on finite element software. This study studied the mechanical behavior of asphalt pavement during the braking process and the impact of main control parameters on rutting diseases.[Findings]There is a significant rut disease in the bus stops and intersections of urban roads within a range of 30 meters. There is a positive correlation between the duration of red lights and the depth of ruts, and the longer the waiting time, the deeper the ruts;the differ-ence in the continuity of traffic flow in different lanes, and the frequent deceleration as well as braking of vehicles at bus stops or intersections lead to an increase in the duration of wheel load on the road sur-face,which is the main reason for the serious rutting disease in this type of road section.[Conclusions]When designing asphalt pavement for urban roads, separate designs should be made for sections within 30~50 m of bus stops and intersections to improve the strength and deformation control indicators of the structural layer and reduce the occurrence of rutting diseases.
