Experimental Study and Numerical Analysis of the Bearing Capacity of Reinforced Concrete Beams
[Purposes]The purpose of this study is to investigate the influence of flexural failure on the bearing capacity of reinforced concrete(RC)beams through four-point bending graded loading tests, and to establish a numerical model using finite element analysis software to verify the experimental results. In addition, the study compares and analyzes the results with those obtained from formula calculations.[Methods]The bearing capacity of RC beams is studied by three methods:experimental testing,numeri-cal simulation, and formula calculation.[Findings]The results show that the established model can pre-dict the bearing capacity of RC beams well, which provides strong support for accurately evaluating the safety performance of RC beams.[Conclusions]Although the flexural failure test method of reinforced concrete beams is accurate and realistic,it is not suitable for practical engineering applications. The fi-nite element analysis method, however can simulate the whole process with high precision, fast speed, and low cost, and has good agreement with experiments. The formula calculation tends to be idealized,so appropriate methods need to be selected based on specific objects.
