Effect of CaSO4 on the Properties of Corundum-spinel Refractories
[Purposes]The purpose is to improve high-temperature properties of corundum-spinel materi-als.[Methods]corundum-spinel materials were prepared using tabular corundum, fused white corun-dum,spinel,alumina powder, and CaSO4 as raw materials. The effects of CaSO4 content on room tempera-ture performance, hot modulus of rupture, elasticity modulus and thermal shock of corundum-spinel ma-terialswere studied.[Findings]The results show that:With the increase of CaSO4,the cold modulus of rupture and compressive strength of the samples first increased and then decreased. The high tempera-ture flexural strength first increases and then decreased, and the thermal shock resistance was better when the amount of calcium sulfate was less.[Conclusions]The specimens with 4.2%CaSO4 have good cold temperature performance, hot strength and thermal shock resistance, which is mainly attributed to the hexagonal plate-like CA6 formed by the reaction of CaO decomposed from CaSO4 after high tempera-ture calcination and Al2O3 in the matrix, which is interlaced. This structure is beneficial to improve the thermal shock resistance and elastic modulus of the sample.
