Impact of Cursor Control Devices and Target Orientation on Pointing Performance
[Purposes]This paper investigates the effects of different cursor control devices and target direc-tions on pointing performance, aiming to improve the efficiency of human-computer interaction.[Methods]Based on ISO 9241-9,we invited 30 subjects to participate in the experiment, and obtained the reaction time, correctness rate, and subjective scores of the subjects using a normal mouse,a thumb trackball, and an embedded rolling ball mouse.[Findings]There was no significant difference in the correct rate of pointing when using the three cursor control devices, and there was a significant difference in reaction time. The target direction had no significant effect on the correct rate but a significant effect on the re-sponse time of the embedded ball mouse.[Conclusions]①When designing the icon position of the interac-tion interface, the horizontal leftward direction(180°)is prioritized when using the thumb trackball interac-tion;the vertical downward direction(270°)is prioritized when using the embedded rollerball mouse.② In terms of user fatigue, the thumb-based trackball is the easiest to use.③When performing simple human-computer interaction tasks, the use of an ordinary mouse is superior to the thumb trackball and the em-bedded ball mouse.
