[Purposes]Smart hydrogels possess high stability,unique physicochemical properties,and a variety of stimulus-responsive functions.The development and research of smart hydrogels with multiple responsiveness and biocompatibility can gain more practical application value in the field of biomedical engineering.[Methods]This article reviews the preparation process of smart hydrogels,the responsive-ness mechanisms of different smart hydrogels,and their specific application methods,with a focus on their application progress in the field of biomedical engineering.[Findings]Smart hydrogels have a wide range of raw material sources and diverse preparation processes,which exhibits multiple stimulus re-sponse characteristics such as temperature responsiveness,pH responsiveness,electrical responsiveness,and light responsiveness.Due to their special physicochemical properties and good biocompatibility,they have been widely used in drug delivery,tissue engineering,and other fields.[Conclusions]The in-troduction of stimulus response can enhance the functionality of hydrogels and expand their application range in the field of biomedical engineering.Research on smart hydrogels is moving towards integrating multiple responsiveness to achieve more complex functions and more refined control.
