The Impact of Guide Vanes on the Propulsion Performance and Blade Cavitation Effects of Shaftless Pump-Jet Propulsors
[Purposes]Cavitation effects occur in the blades of shaftless pump-jet propulsors at high rota-tional speeds. To mitigate these effects, this study investigates the installation methods and rotational di-rections of guide vanes.[Methods]Numerical simulations using CFD software were conducted on various guide vane installation configurations to assess the overall thrust and blade cavitation characteristics of the shaftless pump-jet propulsor, aiming to identify the optimal installation structure.[Findings]In con-figurations without guide vanes, although the propulsion performance was better, the blade cavitation area was the largest.Among configurations with guide vanes, the setup with guide vanes placed behind the propulsor and rotating in the same direction as the blades achieved the best propulsion performance, reducing the cavitation area by 14.7%compared to the configuration without guide vanes.[Conclusions]The findings provide valuable insights for optimizing the installation methods of guide vanes and reduc-ing cavitation effects.
