Performance and Emission Tests of Biodiesel-diesel Blends
Performances and exhaust emissions of biodiesel-diesel blends, with biodiesel (waste cooking oil methyl esters) percentages of 10% ,20% and 30%, were tested and compared with pure diesel in a horizontal single cylinder four stroke diesel engine. Experimental results showed that brake specific fuel consumptions of biodiesel-diesel blends were higher than pure diesel for no more than 10% generally; Nox, CO and CO2 emissions increased with engine power; with increasing of biodiesel percentage. Nox and CO2 emissions increased and followed by decreasing, CO emissions decreased all along to values similar with pure diesel; smoke emissions decreased with the increasing of biodiesel percentage.
