Based on the observation data of daily average wind at 10 m height in Henan Province in 1981-2020,the spatial and temporal distribution characteristics of wind speed in Henan Province are an-alyzed and evaluated. The results show that the climate state of wind speed in Henan Province is featured with obvious seasonal cycles. The surface wind is strong in winter and spring, but weak in summer and autumn.Spatially, the wind speed in the eastern part of Henan is higher than in the western part.In the annual cycle, the wind speed increases the most from February to March, while the wind speed in the other months changes gently. In terms of its variation trend, the wind speed has the spatial characteristics of strengthening in western Henan but slowing down in the eastern part.Especially, the western Henan has altered from the region with the weakest wind to the region blowing strongest wind in the past 10 years, which is also associated with the overall weakening of winds in other regions. The second mode of EOF shows that the wind speed in Henan Province also has certain interdecadal variation characteristics. In addition, the contribution of interannual variability in the 2-9-year cycle is significantly weaker than that of interdecadal and trend, that is,the short-term change of wind speed is stable. However,in the context of climate change, there has been a systematic trend in the changes of wind speed with obvious regional differences.
