Operation Analysis of Automatic Meteorological Observation Stations Before and After the July 20 Extreme Rainstorm in Zhengzhou
From July 17 to 22,2021,Zhengzhou experienced a rare extreme rainstorm(referred to as Zhengzhou July 20 extreme rainstorm)in history, which caused serious urban waterlogging, landslide, and mudslides. At the same time,it also had a great impact on the operation of automatic meteorological observation stations.Based on the statistics of the arrival time and report rate of 8 national automatic weather stations and 192 regional automatic weather stations within 120 hours before and after the July 20 extreme rainstorm in Zhengzhou, this paper analyzes the reasons for the failure of automatic weather sta-tion equipment. In addition, the possible abnormal precipitation data is judged according to the actual rainfall map and radar echoes. The results reveal that Dengfeng and Gongyi stations were unable to trans-mit data in a timely manner due to the destruction of nearby data transmission base stations.Except for these two stations, the other six national automatic weather stations operated relatively stably. The num-ber of faulty sites in regional automatic weather stations increased gradually as the rainfall intensified, but 91.1%of the missing reports were able to be normally retransmitted. So,the main reasons for missing re-ports are power outages and communication interruption.
