The traditional view considers Hume to be a skeptic, suggesting that he doubts or denies the existence of ob-jective causal relationships in the external world.Contrary to this traditional perspective,a new trend in Hume studies, known as the New Humean school, maintains that Hume is a realist and that our concept of causation originates from the ex-ternal world. The"new"aspect of the New Humean interpretation does not lie in its fundamental views,as these basic ideas existed before the emergence of the New Humean trend as a distinct movement.Instead, the novelty of the New Humean ap-proach is primarily reflected in a new form of realism, new textual interpretations, and new textual foundations.Although the New Humean interpretation is not entirely convincing and does not align with Hume's fundamental stance of thorough empiricism,it has advanced Hume studies and enhanced the understanding of Hume's views on causality.
