The Role of the Language Services Industry in High-Quality Regional Economic Development:An Empirical Analysis Based on the Language Services Industry Index
Based on fixed effects and instrumental variable models,this study uses a sample of 264 prefecture-level cities from 2005 to 2019 and constructs a language service industry index using national business registration information.The study empirically investigates the effects and mechanisms of language services on promoting regional economic high-quality development.The results indicate that the development of language services significantly promotes high-quality regional eco-nomic development,primarily reflected in the dimensions of innovation and openness.The impact is more pronounced in re-gions with higher levels of marketization,education investment,and a greater proportion of the service industry,as well as in eastern region.Mechanism analysis reveals that language services drive high-quality regional economic development through three pathways:enhancing innovation,expanding foreign trade,and attracting overseas talent.Therefore,it is es-sential to optimize the structure of the language service industry,innovate language talent training models,and implement regionalized,personalized,and differentiated language service development strategies.
