Preliminary Study on the Diversity of Birds and Mammals in Yuanling,Hunan Province Based on Camera Trapping
From July 2022 to February 2023,a preliminary investigation was conducted on the diversity of birds and mammals in Yuanling,Hunan province.In this survey,6 sample areas were set up,and a total of 67 in-frared cameras were deployed.The survey underwent a total of 10040 camera-days and 2706 independent and ef-fective photos were collected,including 1329 photos of mammals and 405 photos of birds.46 species of wild ani-mals were recorded,including 15 mammal species(belonging to 4 orders and 10 families)and 31 bird species(belonging to 4 orders and 14 families).Among these detected species,2 species are listed as first-class National Protected Wildlife:Viverricula indica and Syrmaticus ellioti,and 8 species are listed as second-class National Pro-tected Wildlife,e.g.Elaphodus cephalophus,Prionailurus bengalensis and Macaca mulatta.There are 1 species lis-ted as the vulnerable wildlife and 2 species listed as the near threatened wildlife according to the IUCN Red List.4 species are listed as the vulnerable wildlife and 14 species are listed as the near threatened wildlife according to the Red List of China's Vertebrates.The top three mammal species in relative abundance index are Arctonyx albogularis(RAI=1.54),Paguma larvata(RAI=1.24)and Sus scrofa(RAI=1.06).The top three bird species in relative abundance index are Syrmaticus ellioti(RAI =0.69),Zoothera aurea(RAI = 0.45)and Streptopelia orientalis(RAI=0.42).
