On He Qifang's Poetry Writing,Translation,and Compilation Practice(1959-1977)
In his late years, when He Qifang was sick and politically frustrated,he resolutely burst out with in-finite poetic sentiment and advocated the establishment of modern Chinese metrical poetry,as is manifest in his great efforts in writing a number of new poems and numerous old-style poems,as well as his active translation and compilation of poetry collections. These poetic practices, either overt or covert, showcase He Qifang's ideas in his later years, since the paradoxes between poetry writing and poetry evaluation, new poetry and old poetry, new po-etry and folk songs,as well as foreign language and translation have led to his profound distress and anxiety.How-ever,under the consistent pursuit of revolutionary politics,He Qifang has striven for the creative transformation of tradition, which, despite its unsastifactory result, highlights the firm ideal of life and highly conscious cultural spirit of the poet revolutionary under the ideological liberation of the integration of the unique poetic art.
