The Construction and Development of the Chinese Rhetoric History——A Review of the Discipline Evolution History and a Probe into the Academic Innovation Path
The process of the research team on the rhetoric history in Fudan University exploring the theory and evolution of Chinese rhetoric history over the past 50 years demonstrates that Chen Wangdao's rhetorical ideas play an important guiding role in the inheritance,development,and innovation of research in this field,as well as the cohesion of discipline direction and strength.The six works on the history of rhetoric published by the team em-body the following innovative ideas and practices,namely,an emphasis on the the unity of"history"and"theory"under the guidance of dialectical materialism,as well as the importance attached to the organic connection and in-teractive relationship between rhetoric as well as social and cultural development.One reason for the team to make its breakthrough and process in its research lies in its persistence in studying the history of rhetoric from multiple di-mensions and levels,as well as stressing the targeted application of key research methods such as the systems theory,vertical and horizontal combination,and point surface combination in different dimensions and levels.The teamwork,with the old leading the new,is another reason for the team's breakthrough and progress in its work,for it is precisely the guidance and support of the older generation of scholars such as Zheng Ziyu,Ji Xianlin,Zhou Zhenfu and Hu Yushu,as well as the joint efforts of the senior,middle-aged and young generations of scholars to tackle the key problems and pass on the legacy,that has produced a colorful and colorful scene in the study of the Chinese rhetoric history in terms of its general history,dynastic history,and thematic history.Looking back at his-tory,we should recognize our shortcomings and look forward to the joint efforts of later generations to"advance new principles"and"explore new domains".
