The Cross-border Frontier Narrative of"New Southern Writing"——A Case Study of Fan Wen's Novel Bi Se Zhai
In the narrative genre of"new southern writing",the cross-border frontier narrative is an important way to deepen the cultural exchanges between China and Southeast Asian countries.Fan Wen's novel Bi Se Zhai,set in Yunnan and linked with Vietnam,re-explores the historical resources of the southwest border passage and ex-pands the new literary paradigm for the cross-border frontier narrative.The novel,centered around the cross-border opening and operation of the Yunnan-Vietnam railway by a French railway company over a hundred years ago,fo-cuses on the historical rise and fall of the Bi Se Zhai Railway Station,and pesents a diverse picture of border cus-toms,personnel disputes,and cultural collisions.Under the perspective of the cross-border frontier,the author has outlined the geographical imagination and adaptation of Europeans through geographical narratives,thus recon-structing the construction and struggle history of the Yunnan Vietnam Railway through historical narratives,as well as highlighting the fusion and conflict between the native culture of the Yi ethnic group and foreign cultures in Eu-rope through cultural narratives.From the cross-border perspective in borderlands,the author depicts the geographi-cal imagination and adaptation of Europeans through geographical narrative,restructures the history of construction and resistance of the Yunnan-Vietnam Railway through historical narrative,as well as highlighting the fusion and conflict between the native culture of the Yi people and foreign cultures in Europe through cultural narratives.
