Experimental study on cleaning and maintenance of clogged pervious concrete pavement
It is necessary to study the cleaning of clogged pervious concrete pavement, which can effectively restore the permeability of pervious concrete pavement. In this experimental study, three types of permeable concrete specimens with target porosity(15%,20%and 25%)were prepared, and a full-grade sand was used to simulate the clogging. The effects of porosities, cleaning method, flushing pressure and washing angle on the cleaning of clogged pervious concrete specimens were analysed. The results show that the larger the porosity of pervious concrete, the higher the recovery of the permeability coefficient achieved using vacuum suction methods.Applying both high-pressure washing and vacuum suction methods in two steps can improve the recovery rate. The high-pressure washing method is more effective than the vacuum suction method in restoring the permeability. There is no need to adjust the pressure value too high when using only high-pressure washing.Considering the cleaning effect and energy consumption, different flushing pressure should be set according to the pervious pavement porosity. The pervious concrete with larger porosity needs to be flushed with higher pressure. When high-pressure washing is used,a flushing angle of 45°is set to obtain a good recovery effect for most pervious concrete pavements.
