Influence of carbonation mineralized recycled aggregate on performances of cement-based materials and its mechanism research
To eliminate the negative effect of recycled aggregate on cement-based materials, the carbonation mineralization technology was developed to modify recycled aggregate. Then, influences of carbonation modified recycled aggregates on strength and shrinkage of cement mortar were experimentally studied.Experimental results show that the carbonation treatment can change Ca(OH)2 and other hydration products in the cement paste attached to recycled aggregate surface into CaCO3 and other carbonation products. Therefore, the carbonation treatment can significantly improve the basic properties of recycled fine aggregate. The carbonation can improve the interfacial transition zone between aggregate and cement matrix, and then enhance the mechanical properties of cement mortar. With the 100%replacement level of recycled aggregate, the carbonation treatment increases the 28 d compressive strength of mortar by 131%and decreases drying shrinkage by 40.9%.Therefore,the carbonation treatment can greatly improve properties of recycled aggregate and cement-based materials, which will provide a technical support for high value utilization of recycled aggregate.
