Research on the protective performance of W-beam guardrails for thin-walled columns filled with concrete
In order to explore the protective performance of the composite W-beam guardrail filled with concrete columns,a new type of W-beam guardrail structure is proposed, which is a thin-walled guardrail filled with concrete columns. The thickness of the W-beam guardrail column filled with C30 concrete is reduced to 4 mm.A numerical model of the collision between a vehicle and a W-beam guardrail was constructed.A numerical model of the collision between a car and a corrugated beam guardrail was constructed for this guardrail structure, and compared with real vehicle collision tests. The overall deformation and collision state of the guardrail in the two test methods were consistent. The research results indicate that during the collision process between three test vehicles and the W-beam guardrail.(1)The vehicles did not cross or ride over the guardrail, and the components of the guardrail did not invade the driver's cab,and the guardrail structure did not detach;(2)The vehicle did not overturn and drove within the guide frame during the passing journey;(3)The longitudinal and transverse components of vehicle collision velocity are 9.4 m/s and 7.7 m/s,respectively,and the longitudinal and transverse components of acceleration are 150.3 m/s2,respectively and 70 m/s2.The guardrails all meet the requirements of the"Standard for Safety Performance Evaluation of Highway Barriers"(JTG B05-01-2013)for the blocking, guiding, and buffering functions of A-level.The research results can provide reference for the upgrading, renovation, and utilization of W-beam guardrails.
