Expression and significance of matrix metalloproteinase-12 and 13 in serum and saliva of patients with oral squa-mous cell carcinom
Objective To investigate the expression and significance of matrix metalloproteinase-12 and 13(MMP-12 and 13)in the serum and saliva of patients with oral squamous cell carcinoma(OSCC).Methods Venous blood and saliva samples were collected from 72 patients with OSCC(OSCC group)and 50 patients with precancerous lesions(precancerous lesion group)and 50 healthy subjects(control group),the levels of MMP-12 and 13 in serum and saliva were detected and compared among the three groups. The receiver operating charac-teristic(ROC)curve was used to analyze the diagnostic value of MMP-12 and MMP-13 in OSCC,and the relationship between MMP-12 and MMP-13 and the clinicopathological characteristics of OSCC patients was analyzed. Results The levels of serum and saliva MMP-12 and MMP-13 in OSCC and precancerous lesions were significantly higher than those of the control group(P<0.05);The levels of MMP-12 in serum and saliva of OSCC patients were significantly higher than those of precancerous lesions, and the level of MMP-13 in the saliva of OS-CC patients was significantly higher than that of precancerous lesions(P<0.05).ROC analysis showed that the area under the curve(AUC)of serum and saliva MMP-12 in the diagnosis of OSCC was 0.964 and 0.932,respectively,and that of serum and saliva MMP-13 in the di-agnosis of OSCC was 0.968 and 0.947,respectively.Compared with the precancerous lesion group, the AUC of serum and saliva MMP-12 in the diagnosis of OSCC was 0.819 and 0.787,respectively.The AUC of serum and saliva MMP-13 in the diagnosis of OSCC was 0.588 and 0.597,respectively.The levels of serum and saliva MMP-12,13 were related to tumor diameter,TNMstage, and lymph node metastasis in patients with OSCC(P<0.05);Conclusion The levels of MMP-12 and MMP-13 in serum and saliva of OSCC patients are significantly in-creased,and they have certain diagnostic value for OSCC.
