A qualitative study of the preoperative waiting experience of patients undergoing day surgery for anorectal disea-ses
Objective To explore the experiences of patients with day surgery for anorectal diseases during the preoperative waiting peri-od,to obtain patients'attitudes towards day surgery, their experience of the admission process and their needs, and to provide a reference for the op-timization of the appointment process for day surgery and the establishment of a standardized clinical pathway process for day surgery for anorectal diseases. Methods This study is a descriptive qualitative study based on phenomenology.Purposive sampling method was used to select 13 pa-tients with anal and intestinal diseases who underwent day surgery in a tertiary-level hospital in Henan Province from April 2023 to May 2023 for semi-structured interviews, and Colaizzi's seven-step method was used to analyze and summarize the interview data to refine the themes. Results The preoperative waiting experience of patients undergoing day surgery for anal diseases could be distilled into three themes:(1)inade-quate preoperative information(2)seeking symptom management;and(3)family-social support needs. Conclusion Patients undergoing day surgery for intestinal diseases know less about the day surgery procedure, and the involvement of nurses in the day surgery unit should be increased during the preoperative waiting process;emphasis should be placed on the assessment of patients'disease-related symptoms;and attention should be paid to the family-social support needs of patients undergoing day surgery, and appropriate support should be provided to them.
