On the Relationship Between Virtue and Happiness in Zhouyi——Also on the New Interpretation of"Taihe"(太和)
Zhouyi has deep thinking and complex presentation on the issue of virtue and happinesss correspondence.Generally speaking,in Zhouyis,although the concept of virtue has sprouted,it has not yet reached complete self-consciousness.The correspondence of virtue and happiness is more in line with"happiness"and"moral conduct",and is potentially dominated by external supernatural forces.In Yi Zhuan,the concept of ghosts and gods as supernatural entities is weakened,and the notion of virtue has become fully self-conscious.At this point,the correspondence of virtue and happiness,as a supreme ideal,is condensed in the concept of"Taihe"(太和).The revelation of this meaning depends on the interpretation of the views of"Xing"(性)and"Ming"(命)in Zhouyi,corresponding to"virtue"and"happiness"respectively.Under the premise of"everything following their Xing and Ming"(各正性 命),only"Taihe"(太和)can be guaranteed as the highest ideal of the correspondence of virtue and happiness.
