Assessment on malaria microscopic examination ability at the city level in Henan province in 2023
Objective To understand the malaria microscopic examination ability of the professionals from city-level institutions in Henan province in 2023,and provide decision-making evidence for preventing re-transmission of imported malaria parasites. Methods The professionals from city-level disease control institutions and designated treatment hospitals in Henan province were requested to conduct the test of malaria prevention and control theoretical knowledge and blood malaria microscopic examination in 2023.Based on the scores, their mastery of theoretical knowledge and microscopic examination ability was analyzed. The Chi-square test was used to compare the difference of scores and the score rate of knowledge points among different groups. Results A total of 43 professions were evaluated, including 19 from designated treatment hospitals and 24 from the disease control institutions, and the average score of the theoretical knowledge test was(93.30±7.96),and the passing rate was 100.00%.The average score of microscopic examination was(92.91±10.81),and the passing rate was 100.00%.100.00%of professional technicians who have participated in malaria microscopy training for at least 3 times have achieved excellent results in microscopy. There were no significant differences in the scores of the basic theoretical knowledge and microscopic examination among gender, age groups, educational backgrounds, professional title, major, type of institution and years of parasite prevention and control(P>0.05).The score rates about knowledge test relevant to morphology and life history, diagnosis, epidemic and prevention, and pathogenicity were 97.29%,93.02%,91.47%,and 89.53%,respectively,and the difference was statistically significant(x2=12.711,P<0.05).Conclusions The professionals at the city level in Henan province have a high-level ability of malaria microscopic examination, which is a powerful guarantee to prevent re-transmission after malaria importation.
