The exposure of media tobacco control publicity and its impact on the cognition of tobacco hazard among patients in a hospital in Henan province
To study the exposure situation of media tobacco control publicity and its impact on the cognition of tobacco hazard among first-visit patients and their families in a hospital of Henan province.Method Using the standardized questionnaire of the Global Adult Tobacco Survey,a total of 7 680 first-visit patients and their families from a hospital of Henan province were surveyed from January 2021 to December 2022.SPSS 21.0 was used for data analysis. Results 60.1%were exposed to one or more tobacco control publicity media, among which the exposure rate of TV(48.9%)and billboards(29.6%)were relatively higher. There were significant differences in exposure rates of tobacco control publicity among the people with different genders, ages and education levels(all P<0.05).The results of regression analysis shows that the more types of media were exposed, the higher proportion of respondents who believed that smoking would cause lung cancer, and that inhalation of secondhand smoke would cause lung disease in children and cause lung cancer in adults(both P<0.05).There was no significant change in the proportion of respondents who knew the harm of low-tar cigarettes correctly when they were exposed to more types of tobacco control media(P>0.05).Conclusions The exposure rate of tobacco control publicity is low among first-visit patients and their families.Exposure to more tobacco control publicity media can significantly increase the awareness rate of tobacco hazard. It suggest that we should increase the publicity of tobacco control in various media, and strengthen the publicity of knowledge related to the harm of low-tar cigarettes.
