Comparison of the second retest and complementary tests results of HIV-1 antibody screening reactive samples in a city,Henan province
Objective To analyze the second retest and complementary tests(nucleic acid test and antibody confirmation test)results of HIV-1 antibody screening reactive samples, and provide the evidence for HIV-1 detection strategy. Methods From February 2022 to February 2023,141 HIV-1 antibody screening reactive samples sent by medical institutions were tested for antibody second retest, viral load(VL),and antibody confirmation test by Western blot(WB).Results Among the 141 HIV-1 antibody screening reactive samples,131(92.91%)samples had response, and 10(7.09%)samples had no response in the second retest. The positive rate in the second retest was 50%(1/2)for pregnant women,91.67%(77/84)for preoperative examination,94.74%(36/38)for voluntary consultation,100.00%(5/5)for physical examination(marriage examination, recruitment examination and normal physical examination),and 100.00%(7/7)for other persons(detainees and previous confirmed patients).HIV viral load detection results were<50 copies/mL for 13(9.92%)samples,between 50-<1 000 copies/mL for 8(6.11%)samples,between 1 000-5 000 copies/mL for 13(9.92%)samples,and ≥5 000 copies/mL for 97(74.05%)samples.Of the 21 samples with VL detection results between 50-5 000 copies/mL,WB results were all HIV-1 antibody positive, and 9 band types were found. They were mainly full band. There were no bands in 10 samples of no response after the second retest, and VL detection results were all<50 copies/mL.Conclusions It can improve the level of HIV detection rate and quickly lock the source of infection to reduce the HIV-1 viral load positive threshold and use antibody retest and nucleic acid detection.
