Prevalence of metabolic syndrome and its influencing factors among rural residents in a county of Henan province
Objective To analyze the prevalence of metabolic syndrome(MS)and its influencing factors among rural residents in Fan county,Puyang city.Methods Questionnaire survey,physical examination and blood testing were conducted among the permanent residents aged 18 years and older in the six townships of Fan county based on stratified cluster random samplings from August-November,2022.A total of 2 436 subjects aged 18 years and over with complete information were included in this analysis.Multivariate logistic regression model was used to analyze influencing factors of MS.Results A total of 2 436 rural residents in Fan county,Puyang city were surveyed in 2022.The prevalence of MS was 21.72%among rural residents in Fan county,and the corresponding standardized prevalence was 24.17%.The prevalence was 20.76%for men and 22.48%for women,and the corresponding standardized prevalence was 23.02%for men and 25.06%for women.The prevalence of MS increased with increasing age(x2trend=146.333,P<0.05).The prevalence of elevated blood pressure,abdominal obesity,hypertriglyceridemia,elevated blood glucose,and low HDL-C were 42.65%,40.10%,35.06%,25.29%and 14.74%,respectively.Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that increasing age,smoking and high fat diet were risk factors of MS,while high level of education and more vegetable and fruit intake were protect factors.Conclusions The prevalence of MS was high in the rural areas of Fan county,Puyang city.Older age,low educational level,smoking and high fat diet were the main influencing factors.
