Analysis of iodine nutritional surveillance in children in high water-iodine area in Luohe,Henan,2018-2023
Objective To understand the level of iodine nutrition among the children in high water-iodine areas of Luohe City,so as to provide the evidence for scientific adjustment of intervention strategies. Methods According to the National Monitoring Pro-tocol for High Water-Iodine Areas(2018 Version),five villages were selected in Linying County,Luohe every year, and 40 non-boarding students aged 8-10 years old(age balanced;with an equal number of males and females;age range was adjusted to 6-12 years if the number of students was not enough.)were selected from every selected village every year during 2018-2023.One random urine sample and salt sample from household salt for every selected child were collected for detecting the urinary io-dine and iodine content in salt, and the thyroid volume of every selected child was measured. Results Collection of 200 urine sam-ples from children in high iodine areas per year,2018-2023,the medians of urinary iodine among the children were 198.5,156.2,358.0,556.0,508.2,441.4 µ g/L,respectively.The proportions of non-iodized salt for the six years were 0.0%(0/200),0.0%(0/200),6.5%(13/200),13.0%(26/200),56.0%(112/200),26.5%(53/200),respectively.The thyroid volumes of the selected 1 200 children aged 8-12 years were measured, and 18 children had thyroid enlargement. The rates of thyroid enlargement for the six years were 2.0%(4/200),0.0%(0/200),2.0%(4/200),2.5%(5/200),0.0%(0/200),2.5%(5/200),respectively.Conclusions The iodine level among the children in high water-iodine areas of Luohe City is excessive.
