Survey on the awareness and training status of professional and technical personnel regarding the knowledge for the prevention and control of kala-azar in Xuchang City of Henan Province in 2023
Objective To understand the awareness and training status of professional and technical personnel regarding the knowledge for the prevention and control of kala-azar in Xuchang City,so as to provide the evidence for preventing the spread of the disease and formulating prevention and control measures.Methods In June 2023,an online questionnaire based on the platform of Questionnaire Star was conducted for understanding the awareness and training of professional and technical personnel at city,county,township,and village-level medical institutions in Xuchang regarding core knowledge for the prevention and control of kala-azar.Results A total of 2 823 professional and technical personnel were surveyed,and 2 676 valid questionnaires were collected,representing an effective response rate of 94.79％.The overall awareness rate about ten items of core knowledge of kala-azar prevention and control was 75.50％(20 204/26 760),and there were statistically significant differences of the awareness rates among sex,education level,professional title and institution level(x2=8.210,117.970,63.276,and 147.338,respectively;all P＜0.05).The awareness rates were 93.31％(2 497/2 676)for the transmission route of kala-azar,87.82％(2 350/2 676)for the pathogen of kala-azar,85.43％(2 286/2 676)for carriers of kala-azar,and 80.12％(2 144/2 676)for source of kala-azar infection.Of the professional and technical personnel,66.63％(1 783/2 676)had participated in training related to parasitic diseases such as kala-azar,imported malaria and so on.There was a statistically significant difference in the proportion of trained personnel among city,county,township,and village-level medical institutions(x2=8.544,P＜0.05).Conclusions The awareness rate of professional and technical personnel regarding the knowledge for the prevention and control of kala-azar in Xuchang City is relatively high.It is advised to keep strengthening the training on the knowledge related to kala-azar and health education campaigns among healthcare personnel in both epidemic and monitoring areas of Xuchang City for enhancing the awareness in diagnosis and treatment to prevent the spread of the disease.
