Investigation and health risk assessment of metal contamination status in the sea products from aquaculture area in Weihai of Shandong,2018-2022
Objective To investigate the status of heavy metal contamination in the sea products from aquaculture farms, and assess its health risks in Weihai. Methods Eight types of sea products, including marine fish, marine shrimp, crabs, marine cucumbers, kelp, oysters, scallops and clams were randomly collected from aquaculture area between May to November each year, from 2018 to 2022.The contents of lead, cadmium, chromium, total mercury, total arsenic, nickel, copper, zinc, aluminum and tin in sea products were determined according to national standards. The single factor contamination index(Pi)and comprehensive contamination index(Pc)were used to analyze contamination levels, and target hazard coefficient(THQ)were used to assess the population health risks. Results The detection rates of metals in 536 samples of the eight kinds of sea products were as follows:total arsenic(100.00%),aluminum(97.74%),copper(91.36%),nickel(87.24%),cadmium(86.00%),lead(76.67%),chromium(75.72%),total mercury(56.72%),and tin(36.63%).About the heavy metals, the over-standard rate of cadmium was 8.58%;the detection rates of lead and chromium did not exceed the standard. The contents of lead and copper in oyster were relatively high, and the medians were 0.176 and 61.283 mg/kg,respectively.The contents of cadmium and chromium in scallop were relatively high, and the medians were 5.550 mg/kg and 0.462 mg/kg,respectively.The contents of total mercury and total arsenic in crabs were relatively high, and the medians were 0.017 and 6.391 mg/kg,respectively.The contents of nickel and aluminum in clam were relatively high, and the median were 0.720 and 213.712 mg/kg,respectively.The content of tin in sea cucumber was highest, with a median of 0.010 mg/kg.According to the Pi 5.59%and 1.68%of sea products were slightly and moderately contaminated with lead,respectively;13.99%,13.79%,and 10.49%of sea products were found to be slightly, moderately, and severely contaminated with cadmium,respectively;5.10%of sea products were slightly contaminated with chromium.According to the Pc,crabs were moderately contaminated, while scallops were mildly contaminated.THQ and TTHQ values of lead, cadmium, and chromium in 8 types of sea products were all less than 1.Conclusions From 2018 to 2022,multiple metals were detected in the sea products from aquaculture farms in Weihai;there were the contamination of lead, chromium and cadmium, and cadmium contamination was relatively serious. The problem of cadmium contamination in sea products should be paid attention to.The comprehensive assessment suggested that the health risks caused by lead, chromium and cadmium for the residents who consumed the sea products for a long time were relatively low.
