Objective To analyze the mortality status and causes of deaths among permanent residents in Heze City from 2021 to 2023 and provide evidence for disease prevention and control strategies.Methods Mortality data were obtained from the Integrated Management Information System for Monitoring Chronic Diseases and Causes of Death of Shandong Province.Causes of death were coded using ICD-10,and mortality rates,standardized mortality rates,and the composition of causes were analyzed using SAS 9.4 software.Results The crude mortality rates in Heze City were 681.14/100 000 in 2021,682.24/100 000 in 2022,and 714.43/100 000 in 2023,respectively.The standardized mortality rates were 459.48/100 000,446.17/100 000,and 455.01/100 000,respectively.Males had a higher mortality rate than females(763.19/100 000 vs 619.48/100 000,x2=1 966.04,P<0.05).The top five causes of death were cardiovascular diseases(32.90%),malignant tumors(25.71%),cerebrovascular diseases(25.11%),respiratory diseases(4.58%),and injuries(4.35%),accounting for 92.65%of deaths.Leading causes varied by age:injuries and perinatal diseases in 0-<5 years(24.27%and 23.85%),injuries in 5-<15 years(56.37%),injuries and malignant tumors in 15-<45 years(29.31%and 27.38%),malignant tumors in 45-<65 years(39.87%),and cardiovascular diseases in ≥65 age group(35.56%).Chronic non-communicable diseases were the primary cause of death(92.77%),with an increasing trend in mortality rate over three years(x2trends=38.19,P<0.001).Conclusion Chronic non-communicable diseases are the leading cause of death in Heze City.Comprehensive prevention and control strategies and targeted health education are urgently needed to address this health burden.
