Zhang Congzheng believed that emotional change is the manifestation of the movement change of qi in the aspect of spiritual emotion.If the seven emotions are extreme,and depression will turn into fire,accumulating in the chest.The heart is the main organ of the viscera,the vessels are connected in the heart,leading to blockage and failure to disperse;the heart yang moves indiscreetly,forcing the blood to flow down,and causes ectopic leakage.Or the emotions are extreme,disturbing the mind,causing the upper energizer ob-struction,then ectopic leakage occurs.The heart is in charge of both blood vessels and mind.If the five emotions are extreme,damaging the five viscera,all of which are heat syndromes,which should be treated by smoothing the heart fire and clearing the upper part.There-fore,Zhang Congzheng used the method of clearing heat and clearing the upper part to treat ectopic leakage.First,he used Coptis Toxin-Resolving Decoctio to clear the heart fire,so as to make the lung functioning properly in dispersing excessive qi,then adopted Dia-phragm-Cooling Powder or Four Substances Decoction to protect yin liquid,so that reckless yang qi in the body can be dispersed,and the reckless blood can be stopped,then the ectopic leakage can be cured.
