Study on the Occurrence of Diabetic Retinopathy Based on the Body-Qi-Spirit Trinity View
Man is a whole,with body,qi and spirit interrelated and integrated.The body is the carrier,the house of qi and spirit;qi is the power,the supplement of body and spirit;spirit is the master,the lord of body and spirit.If one is too excessive or too deficient,the other two will be damaged.Inborn endowment is insufficient,plus the five zang organs'yin deficiency and dry heat,consumptive thirst is formed,and retina is diseased after a long time.The triple energizer dredges original qi,if hot wine fumigates the triple energizer,fire will be stagnated inside the body,essence and blood will become dried up,five zang organs will have yin deficiency and dry heat,lead-ing to yin deficiency and dry heat.The fire and heat burns the vessels of the retina,the blood overflows the vessels and enters the vitre-ous humor,or the blood stops and becomes stasis,and the divine light fails to function.The triple energizer is the path of water and grain,so if the triple energizer is in disorder,the food essence fails to enter the retina,then sight dizziness will occur.If water fails to flow downward,the retina will be filled with water,and attacked by edema;if water accumulates and transforms into phlegm,the retina will be blocked and the pupil will be blinded.Insufficient original qi due to consumptive thirst leads to weak ascending and descending.If lucid yang fails to flow upward,the retina will lose nutrients.If turbid yin fails to move downward,pathogen is accumulated in the reti-na,then edema or blockage in the retina will occur,leading to sight failing to see.If original yang is insufficient,phlegm dampness accu-mulates inside the body,the retina will be blocked.If original yin is insufficient,essence and blood has not enough supply,the retina will lose nourishment.Yin deficiency and dry heat caused by consumptive thirst damages the lungs'qi and yin,makes the soul lack of source,essence and blood fail to fill,so the retina will lose nourishment,leading to dark eyes.Long time's consumptive thirst causes liv-er-kidney deficiency.Deficient soul affects the son,leading to soul-spirit deficiency and dysfunction,then the retina will fail to see things clearly.The seven emotions'disorder disturbs the qi movement,injures the five zang organs,so the retina will be attacked by diseases.The physiological and pathological characteristics of body,qi and spirit are interconnected.Diabetic retinopathy caused by body leads to qi-spirit disorder;the disease caused by qi leads to body-spirit failing to function;and the disease caused by spirit is usually combined with abnormal body and qi.The abnormality of any zang-fu organs,the triple energizer,original qi,pectoral qi,original spirit,ethereal soul,seven emotions,etc.will affect each other,causing diabetic retinopathy.Therefore,the clinical diagnosis and treatment should con-sider body,qi and spirit together,and give full play to the advantages of TCM.
