Sepsis is a systemic inflammatory response syndrome caused by pathogenic microorganisms invading the body.It is a critical and severe clinical condition,often presenting with high fever and bleeding during disease progression,which is closely related to fire and heat.Excessive fire and intense heat are important factors in the pathogenesis of sepsis,and clinical treatment should be staged ac-cordingly.In the early stage of sepsis,heat pathogens damage the defense qi and spread to the nutrient aspect.Treatment should aim to release heat and transform qi,with Nutrient-Clearing Decoction being selected.In the progression stage of sepsis,heat pathogens stagnate in the defense qi aspect and do not resolve,spreading to the nutrient and blood aspects,scorching the essence and fluids,and transfor-ming into fire.Treatment should focus on clearing fire and detoxifying.For cases with vomiting,ascites,and acute liver injury,Virgate Wormwood Decoction is adopted.For cases with delirium,unconsciousness,and septic encephalopathy,Decoction for Arousing the Brain and Flushing Phlegm Away and Purgation is selected.
