Professor Sun Xiqing's Experience in Treating Vascular Dementia Through Six-Meridian Differentiation
Professor Sun Xiqing believes that vascular dementia(VaD)can be treated through the differentiation of the six meridians.For obstruction of the greater yang meridian exterior qi leading to disharmony between the nutrient and defense qi,the treatment focuses on warming the meridians to unblock the vessels and harmonizing the nutrient and defense qi,using Cinnamon Twig Decoction with add-ed stir-fried Maiya(Fructus Hordei Germinatus),white Fuling(Poria),Chuanxiong(Rhizoma Chuanxiong)and Tianma(Rhizoma Gastrodiae).For interaction between blood stasis and heat,with blood accumulating in the yang brightness meridian,the treatment focu-ses on activating blood circulation to resolve stasis,and unblocking the viscera to awaken the brain,so Resistance Decoction Decoction is used,stir-fried Maiya(Fructus Hordei Germinatus),and white Fuling(Poria)are added.For disharmony in the lesser yang meridian causing dysfunction in the pivot,the treatment focuses on harmonizing the lesser yang meridian,regulating the qi movement,calming the mind,so Bupleurum Decoction Plus Os Draconis and Concha Ostreae without Qiandan(Minium)is used,and Changpu(Rhizoma Acori Tatarinowii),Yuanzhi(Radix Polygalae)and Chuanxiong(Rhizoma Chuanxiong)are added.For pathogen invasion in the greater yin meridian preventing lucid yang from ascending,the treatment focuses on invigorating the spleen to elevate lucid yang,so Four Gentlemen Decoction combined with Happy Powder and Cinnamon Twig and Poria Pill is used.For failure of the lesser yin meridian resulting in the disharmony between water and fire,the treatment focuses on clearing the upper while warming the lower,and harmonizing the heart and kidney,so Gardenia and Semen Sojae Praeparatum Decoction combined with Aconite Decoction is used.For the reverting yin meridian being obstructed,leading to a disconnection between yin and yang,the treatment focuses on clearing the upper while nourishing the low-er and harmonizing yin and yang,so Rhizoma Coptidis and Colla Corii Asini Decoction,and Polyporus Decoction can be used.For dis-harmony between yin and yang,the treatment focuses on clearing the upper body while warming the lower and regulating yin and yang,so Mume Pill plus Chuanxiong(Rhizoma Chuanxiong)can be used.
