Preliminary Exploration of the Characteristics and Clinical Applications of Yinwei in Chinese Medical Canon
Objective:To summarize and organize the definitions,distribution,main indications,corresponding acupoints,and treatment methods related to Yinwei based on ancient texts from Chinese Medical Canon.Methods:The 5th edition of Chinese Medical Canon was used as the source database to search for entries related to the Yinwei meridian.A database of clinical applications was established,and data analysis and visualization were conducted using GraphPad Prism 9.1.Results:A total of 1 156 works were reviewed,with 197 ones containing references to Yinwei or Yinwei meridian.These included 31 medical classics,23 diagnostic works,6 herbology works,10 for-mulas'works,36 acupuncture and massage works,11 works on cold damage and synopsis of Golden Chamber,2 works on warm disea-ses,29 general medical books,18 specialized clinical works,2 health preservation and external treatment works,27 medical theories and case studies,1 dictionary,and 1 other category.There were 25 works that referred to the Yinwei acupoint as an alias for the"Dahe"acupoint,and 36 ones described the Yinwei meridian as a pulse diagnosis site.Moreover,176 works regarded the Yinwei meridian as one of the eight extraordinary meridians.Conclusion:It is found that Yinwei mainly consists of Yinwei acupoint,a pulse site and Yinwei me-ridian,which is one of the eight extraordinary meridians.Indicated for treating meridian-related disorders in the inner ankle,lumbar,ab-domen,ribs,chest,and throat.It is mainly used for treating heart diseases,digestive system disorders,mental and neurological condi-tions,gynecological and andrological diseases,and chronic degenerative diseases.
