Overview of the Applications of Infrared Thermal Imaging Technology in TCM Syndrome Differentiation
Infrared thermal imaging technology(IRT)holds significant potential for applications in TCM clinical syndrome differentia-tion,specifically in areas such as eight-principle syndrome differentiation,zang-fu organ syndrome differentiation, meridian syndrome differentiation,six-meridian syndrome differentiation, and syndrome element differentiation. However, there are still the following current challenges:(1)There is a lack of standardized protocols for operating infrared thermal imaging devices, image analysis methods, and system parameters, along with an absence of standardized image atlases and databases;(2)Most studies using IRT in TCM focus on eight-principle and zang-fu organ syndrome differentiation, with minimal studies addressing meridian,six-meridian,and syndrome ele-ment differentiation.Current research primarily measures and compares single physical parameters, rather than utilizing multi-parameter information sets;(3)Most studies rely on small sample sizes, with a lack of large-sample,multicenter systematic clinical studies.Future efforts should aim to increase sample sizes, standardize protocols, expand research depth, innovate and improve research methodologies to enhance accuracy. This approach seeks to elucidate the mechanisms of IRT in TCM syndrome differentiation, enhance the visualization, quantification, and objectivity of TCM diagnostics, and promote the modernization of TCM practices.
