Types and characteristics of ancient Huxiang TCM literature
TCM literature of Hunan region,commonly referred to as Huxiang TCM literature,serves as both a crucial pathway for Huxiang ancestors to understand diseases and an important treasure house of TCM knowledge in Huxiang area.From initial oral inheritance to bamboo and silk manuscripts,bamboo and wooden slips,and then to paper documents,Huxiang TCM literature has fully demonstrated its richness and variety as well as its unique development trajectory.Huxiang TCM literature begun to sprout during the Zhou,Qin,and Han dynasties,primarily characterized by bamboo and silk manuscripts.Later,in the Wei,Jin,Sui,and Tang dynasties,the literature carrier gradually changed to bamboo and wooden slips,accompanying the growth of literature related to health preservation.During the Song,Jin,and Yuan dynasties,compiled formula books occupied a dominant position,marking the ever-improving TCM knowledge system.Then,the Ming and Qing dynasties witnessed the heyday of Huxiang TCM literature,especially with the widespread dissemination of literature on dealing with epidemics.By clarifying the types and characteristics of ancient Huxiang TCM literature,this paper reveals and explores the construction process of Huxiang TCM knowledge and its theories,so as to promote the research and utilization of Huxiang TCM and its associated literature.
