Professor GE Jinwen's experience in treating adolescent mental disorders based on the theory of opening and closing of qi movement
This paper aims to summarize Professor GE Jinwen's clinical experience in differentiating and treating adolescent mental disorders based on the theory of opening and closing of qi movement.Professor GE believes that adolescent mental disorders belong to the category of"mental diseases"in TCM,and their pathogenesis may be lack of energy in opening and closing of qi movement due to primordial qi deficiency, resulting in inactive yang qi,and thereby causing"depression";or irregularity of opening and closing of qi movement due to disharmony of the liver and spleen, leading to qi stagnation transforming into fire, and thus bringing about"anxiety"-"mental confusion";or unsmoothness of opening and closing of qi movement due to Shaoyin pivots without rotating, causing disharmony between the heart and kidney, and eventually contributing to"mania"-"dementia".Therefore,in order to treat the adolescent mental disorders, the harmony of qi ascending and descending as well as the unobstructed opening and closing of qi movement should be emphasized.Treatment methods of activating yang and cultivating primordial qi,regulating and harmonizing the liver and spleen, and smoothing Shaoyin pivots to coordinate the heart and kidney should be applied,so as to balance the holistic functions of the viscera, which contributes to the normal opening and closing of qi movement in the whole body.
