Clinical study of ZHANG's acupoint therapy combined with electroacupuncture at Tiaokou(ST38)in treating acute scapulohumeral periarthritis
Objective To explore the clinical efficacy of ZHANG's acupoint therapy combined with electroacupuncture at Tiaokou(ST38)in treating acute scapulohumeral periarthritis. Methods A total of 72 patients with acute scapulohumeral periarthritis recruited in the Department of Neck,Shoulder,Waist and Leg Pain,Yueyang Chinese Medicine Hospital from January 2021 to June 2022 were randomly divided into observation group(n=36,two cases dropped off)and control group(n=36,three cases dropped off). The control group was treated with electroacupuncture at bilateral Tiaokou(ST38),and the observation group was treated with ZHANG's acupoint therapy combined with electroacupuncture at bilateral Tiaokou(ST38),once a day for ten days. The time of onset of treatment, the degree of pain, the function of shoulder joint, the levels of tumor necrosis factor α(TNF-α),5-hydr-oxytryptamine(5-HT),and prostaglandin E2(PGE2)were compared between the two groups before and after treatment, and the clinical efficacy was evaluated. Results After treatment, the effective rate of observation group was higher than that of control group(P<0.05),the time of taking effect in observation group was shorter than that in control group(P<0.05).After treatment,VAS score, serum TNF-α,5-HT,and PGE2 levels in both groups were lower(P<0.05),while Constant-Murley scores were higher(P<0.05).After treatment, the VAS score and the levels of serum TNF-α,5-HT,and PGE2 in observation group were lower than those in control group(P<0.05),while the scores of Constant-Murley in observation group were higher than those in control group(P<0.05).Conclusion ZHANG's acupoint therapy combined with electroacupuncture at Tiaokou(ST38)can effectively reduce the degree of pain and improve the function of shoulder joint in patients with acute scapulohumeral periarthritis, and its mechanism may be related to the inhibition of serum inflammatory factors TNF-α,5-HT,and PGE2.
