Comparison of moxibustion characteristics for emergency treatment between Qian Jin Fang(Important Formulas Worth a Thousand Gold Pieces)and Bei Ji Jiu Fa(Moxibustion Techniques for Emergency)
Both Qian Jin Fang(Important Formulas Worth a Thousand Gold Pieces)[including Bei Ji Qian Jin Yao Fang(Important Formulas Worth a Thousand Gold Pieces for Emergency)and Qian Jin Yi Fang(Supplement to"Important Formulas Worth a Thousand Gold Pieces")]and Bei Ji Jiu Fa(Moxibustion Techniques for Emergency)are essential books on moxibustion for emergency treatment.SUN Simiao's Qian Jin Fang(Important Formulas Worth a Thousand Gold Pieces)in the Tang Dynasty attached great importance to the combination of acupuncture,moxibustion,and decoction,and SUN believed that moxibustion was superior to acupuncture,decoction,and powder in emergency treatment.Based on a wide collection of experiences of moxibustion for emergency treatment from famous physicians,Bei Ji Jiu Fa(Moxibustion Techniques for Emergency)was written by WENREN Qi'nian in the Southern Song Dynasty,supplemented by practices.Both SUN Simiao and WENREN Qi'nian were deeply influenced by GE Hong's academic thoughts on moxibustion.Therefore,the perspectives of moxibustion for emergency treatment of the two books share similarities in four aspects,namely,moxibustion advocation for emergency treatment,number of moxa sticks used in moxibustion altered according to changing symptoms,simple and effective treatment combining moxibustion with medication,and precise and appropriate acupoints selection with standard manipulations,while their differences lie in indication and contr-aindication of moxibustion,acupoints selection and positioning,moxibustion materials,and moxibustion operations.The paper summarizes and explains the above similarities and differences,aiming to provide references and guidance for moxibustion of emergency treatment in clinical practice.
