Wet age-related macular degeneration(wAMD)is commonly seen in the elderly,with a progressive course that seriously affects vision and reduces the life quality of patients.The theory of"treating both the blood and water"is based on the physiopathological characteristics of the homology and mutualization of blood and water,as well as the mutual harm caused by the same disease.Based on pattern differentiation,it is widely used in clinical practice with the method of circulating blood and draining water retention.According to the pathogenesis of wAMD in Chinese medicine,it can be differentiated into liver and kidney yin deficiency,imbalance between liver and spleen,and zang-fu organs dysfunction.Therefore,based on the theory of"treating both the blood and water",this article discusses the staged treatment of wAMD,as well as the pattern differentiation and treatment of its complications including retinal detachment and vitreous hemorrhage,which has achieved precise clinical efficacy.
