Classic of Health:Taoist health preservation theory and its significance in bioethics
Taoism provides a systematic and complete philosophical theory of health preservation,known as the"Classic of Health".It mainly includes four aspects,namely,nourishing qi,attaining mental tranquility,keeping void and peace,and reducing desires.Taking Lao Zi(Tao Te Ching),Zhuang Zi(The Book of Chuang Tzu),and Huai Nan Zi(The Huainanzi Collection)as the main research reference points,this paper provides a detailed analysis of the core content of Taoist health preservation theory,and explores its enlightening significance for modern bioethics.It is believed that people should not only preserve their health in accordance with the way of nature,but also adhere to the value of natural inaction,understanding life,respecting life,and viewing life and death according to the principles of nature.
