Since the middle of the 20th century,the lagging countries have followed the modernization model of the developed capitalist countries after independence,but all of them have suffered failure or even become the vassal of the developed countries.In response to this dependence phenome-non,Andre Gunder Frank and other foreign left-wing scholars hold a critical reflection attitude.The underdeveloped political economy represented by the dependency theory and the world system theory they expounded,reveals the essence of forced dependence in the central development of the Western model,such as the pattern shaping in colonial expansion,the enlarged exploi-tation in the division of labor,and the economic strangulation in political in-dependence.The political economy of underdeveloped countries deeply con-siders the development status of developing countries and forms a unique de-velopment theory with certain limitations.In general,the political economy of underdevelopment has shed light on the development of developing coun-tries in the contemporary world.An examination of it helps to avoid falling into the trap of Western modernization,and provide profound ideological en-lightenment on how to further promote the process of Chinese-style modern-ization.
