Empathy Fatigue in Online Opinions:Characterization,Causes,and Avoidance
In the Internet era,due to the repeated use public emotions,in the process of long-term contact and participa-tion in online discussions,their empathy ability and willingness to empathize with social issues and public opinion events gradually weaken,they did not have enough emotional ability to correctly empathize with and deal with a large amount of in-formation in the network,showing a clear"sense of burnout"at the emotional,cognitive,and behavioral levels,leading to the emergence of public opinion empathy fatigue.In essence,the empathy fatigue of online public opinion is the result of combined effect of Internet information overload,public opinion event reversal and information filtering.It has a negative impact on individuals,social interaction,and the construction of a clear cyberspace,which hinders the effective dissemina-tion of information,the formation of consensus and the public’s participation in public affairs.In order to avoid this phe-nomenon,it is urgent to transcend the binary opposition between rationality and emotion,prevent the loss of empathy ability due to information disorder,timely release the pressure of online public opinion empathy,and also prevent online public o-pinion from being immersed in collective emotions,and thus build a harmonious cyberspace of rational empathy.
