Screening and Identification of Shade-Tolerant Peanut Varieties at Seedling Stage in Northeast China
In order to rapidly evaluate shade-tolerance of peanut varieties,53 varieties suitable for cultivation in Northeast China were selected to investigate 13 morphological and physiological indices at seedling stage, which conformed under normal and 60%shaded light conditions. The results elucidated that:1)The agronomic traits of tested peanut cultivars showed different trends and changes between control and shaded treatments, and there were different degrees of correlation among indices.2)Thirteen individ-ual indicators were transformed into 5 independent composite indicators with a cumulative contribution rate of 71.73%by using principal component analysis.3)Affiliation function method and sys-tematic clustering were employed to divide the 53 varieties into five types as extremely strong shade tolerance, fairly strong shade tolerance, medium shade tolerance, weak shade tolerance and no shade tolerance according to the shade tolerance at seedling stage.4)The optimal evaluation model was constructed by stepwise regres-sion method,by which the shade tolerance coefficients of stem height, main stem node number, hypocotyl length, stem dry mass, leaf dry mass, leaf area, and chlorophyⅡ-a content were screened as the main indices for the evaluation of shade tolerance at seedling stage. In conclusion, the results provided theoretical founda-tion for the evaluation of shade tolerance peanut cultivars at early growth stage.
