Failure Analysis and Improvement Design of Radial Diffuser Screw Seat Detachment
The diffuser is an important component in the engine, which often uses vacuum brazing to weld the parts into assemblies, with problems of weld cracks and desoldering. In this study,a radial diffuser is used as a research object to analyze the causes of brazed screw seat dislodgement failure. Then an improved design of integral radial diffuser is proposed. Finally, the strength, vibration fatigue and overall machine performance of the monolithic diffuser are verified by simulation and experimental methods. The results show that weld defects on the outer circumference of the screw seat and the inside of the screw seat crack and expand during engine operation, ultimately leading to screw seat de-welding.The total mass of the integral radial diffuser is 4.91 kg,which is 0.54 kg less than the mass of the parts before the improvement, and it reduces the number of assembled structural parts and simplifies the assembly process.Integral radial diffuser structural strength has been greatly improved, will not resonate fatigue damage, the performance of the whole machine is basically comparable to the improvement of the former. The integral radial diffuser proposed in this study is structurally sound and provides a new idea for the design of highly reliable diffusers.
