Ouyang Shoudao was a famous educator and neo-confucianist in the Southern Song Dynas-ty.As a Confucian,he always adhered to the original intention and the sense of responsibility of a Confu-cian scholarist,revered the way of Confucius and Mencius,advocated practical learning,advocated the ap-plication of knowledge,and based on the standpoint of confucianism,absorbed the mind of Cheng Zhu Neo-confucianism and Lu Jiuyuan and integrated them.He put forward neo-confucianism propositions with the characteristics of the times and individuals,such as"literature is in theory,and science is in learning".The gradual maturity of his philosophy of life and neo-confucianism also influenced the forma-tion of his literary and artistic thoughts.He took the Book of Songs as the standard for his poetry,advo-cated the"gentle and generous"philosophy of poetry teaching,and insisted that poetry should highlight the natural nature and be rooted in the poet's temperament.These literary and artistic ideas had a certain influence on his disciple Liu Chenweng.
