An Analysis of the Reasons for the Prosperity of the Imperial Ranks of the Huizhou Jinshi Clan in the Ming Dynasty:Taking the Pan Clan in Taoxi,Wuyuan as An Example
The Pan family of Taoxi in Wuyuan during the Ming Dynasty,from the 20th year of the Chenghua reign(1484)to the 26th year of the Wanli reign(1598),produced 11 successful candidates and transformed from a humble family to a prestigious family.They were one of the most representative families in the Huizhou area of the Ming Dynas-ty.This article focuses on the imperial examination documents such as the"Dengke Lu"and uses methods such as litera-ture research and data statistical analysis.Taking the Pan family in Taoxi,Wuyuan as an example,it showcases the pros-perous academic status of the Huizhou Jinshi family in the Ming Dynasty.Research has shown that the main reasons for the prosperity of the Pan family are the inheritance of family expertise,solid family finances,good family education,and consciousness of valuing family reputation;Compared with other factors,the factor of specialization is an important con-dition for the formation of the Pan family of successful candidates.
