On the Syntax-Semantics Interface of the Progressive Marker "Lai" in Shouxian Dialect
The character"lai"in the Shouxian dialect of Anhui is one of the progressive aspect markers. The study explores the syntactic combination of"lai"with different types of verbs based on the syntax-semantics interface. It founds that there are obvious combination restrictions between"lai"and state verbs, achievement verbs, and semelfactive verbs. The study believes that the[+duration]feature is the key to whether the verb can be matched with the progressive aspect marker"lai"in the Shouxian dialect. This study further shows that the study of syntax-semantics interface issues should not ignore the study of aktionsart and grammatical aspects, which is an important direction for explaining syntactic phe-nomena.
