Based on the data of China Family Panel Studies in 2010 and 2014,this article examines the boarding effect on the academic performance of rural primary and secondary school students aged 10 to 15,with implying inverse-proba-bility-weighted regression adjustment method. Our findings suggest that:(1)Boarding significantly improves the verbal and math performance of rural primary and secondary school students.(2)Boarding has a positive effect on both boys'and girls'academic performance and girls can benefit most from it.(3)Boarding has a positive effect on primary school students'academic performance. Finally, the impact of boarding on primary students'academic performance is moderated by family background and boarding plays a more significant role in improving the academic performance of dis-advantaged students. These findings have important implications for improving the management and service level of Chi-nese rural boarding schools.
